Simulate B&W Conversion using L.a.b. Calculations directly in Lightroom and Adobe Camera RAW.

Black & White Conversion using Calculations is one of the most powerful tools for Black & White conversion.
What Calculations does is, it takes any two channels among the three (Lab) and masks one with the other using the selected blend mode.

Better work on the images with the visual elements of composition like Leading lines, Reflections, Symmetry, Framing, Textures, Patterns, Viewpoint or Perspective, Shadows, Balance of positive and negative spaces etc.

Please check the colors first, if you have more Reds and Greens, the better choice will be Channel Calculations profiles with **A**, and with Yellows and Blues please select the profiles with **B**.

In the 1940’s, Richard Hunter introduced a tri-stimulus model, **L.a.b.**, which is scaled to achieve near uniform spacing of perceived color differences. While Hunter’s Lab was adopted as the de facto model for plotting absolute color coordinates and differences between colors, it was never formally accepted as an international standard.
Regardless of the which color space name you call it, it’s important to know what L*, a*, and b*stand for.
L*: Lightness
a*: Red/Green Value
b*: Blue/Yellow Value
